The purpose of this urban program is to assist youth (ages 16-21) in getting and keeping a job. The RESTORE Program also offers an opportunity to engage in a variety of recreational, educational, and social networking activities. The RESTORE Program is the result of a collaborative effort between the Onondaga County Probation Department,and New Justice Services, Inc. which provides participants with educational and professional preparation which produces law abiding and self-supporting citizens. New Justice Services, Inc. provides employment preparation in the form of classes that meet twice a week. The RESTORE trainers encourage a mutal exchange of ideas, information, and open discussion on topics such as:
- The Life of Crime
- Choosing Priorities
- Values
- Problem Solving
- Economics
- Structure
- Hope
- Self-Identity
- Health
- Social Skills
Each week, a specific topic is addressed. The first session of the week covers a class discussion while the second session includes a hands on experience in the form of a field trip or enrichment opportunity. The outcomes of the RESTORE Program include the creation of a “Workplace Portfolio” as well as assistance in submitting applications or resumes for work, schooling, or skills training. A $50 stipend will be paid out to any young person who successfully completes the program. In addition to these benefits, the Onondaga County Probation Department will consider a participants successful completion of the program as a possible way to reduce reporting requirements or reducing the duration of an individual’s time on probation. In 2009, 95 youths successfully completed the program and as of the end of their group, 46 were employed and 28 were in a GED program.

No fees are charges to the participants of the RESTORE Program.
